Steel window frames are significantly more durable than their aluminium counterparts. In fact, steel can be as much as three times stronger than aluminium! This strength means that steel frames are perfectly suited for larger windows as they can carry far greater weight. If you require robust structural integrity, go for steel.

Steel window frames do require regular maintenance to ensure they stay in good condition. They require regular treating to protect them from rust and corrosion. However, if they are well maintained, steel can last for decades.

The major benefit that aluminium has over steel is the cost. Aluminium frames may not be able to hold large window panes, but they are significantly cheaper than steel. If your budget is an issue and you don’t require frames to hold a heavy load, aluminium can provide excellent value for money.

Once installed, aluminium requires very little maintenance. Aluminium can corrode but it will not rust and does not require regular treating. Aluminium needs one treatment of powder coating and finishing and will then require no further maintenance.
